My joy in collecting Chinese Blue and white is to explore the diversity &#8211; and small coffee cups are an inexpensive way to build up a substantial base for research (and a nice display)<\/p>\n<p>These late 18th Century Chinese cups are all hand painted, all blue and white and all very different different<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupflwr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-168 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupflwr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"176\" height=\"140\"><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupflwr5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-172\" src=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupflwr5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"221\" height=\"140\">&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even these two cups from the same set are, obviously, painted by two totally different artists<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbees.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-156\" src=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbees.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"118\" height=\"140\"><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-159\" src=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"164\" height=\"140\"><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-160\" src=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"140\"><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-161\" src=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"161\" height=\"140\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These three cups are all of buildings. The first is a striking attempt at a Church &#8211; described but not seen. The second has bricks which I have not seen before on Chinese Porcelain and the third is so classically what the English expected, on their blue and white, that it could almost be a copy from an English Transfer Pattern.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-157\" src=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"185\" height=\"140\"><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-158\" src=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"188\" height=\"140\"><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-162\" src=\"https:\/\/antiquesreview.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/cupbldg6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"189\" height=\"140\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The four bridges on the following three cups are, again, all different; yet the three willow trees are surprisingly similar. Note the superior quality of the painting in the centre cup to its fellow on the left.
